Lunney Family History
Recorded as Luney, Lunney, Lunny, and Lonie, and often with the prefix O' is an Anglicized form of the Gaelic Irish O'Luanaigh, meaning "descendant of Luanach" . 'Luanach' was a personal name deriving from "Luan", meaning a warrior. Originally there were two O'Luanaigh Septs in Ireland, the first belonging to the Munster counties of Cork, Kerry and Clare, the Gaelic poet and scholar Brian O' Looney (1873 - 1901) was from this sept and born in County Clare. The second Sept of O'Luanaigh were important in medieval times, being chiefs of Cenel Moen in the barony of Raphoe, County Donegal.Select Audience

Lunney
My great great grandfather came to America sometime in mid 1860 into the port of Boston, Ma. The problem is his name maybe Thomas F Lunney of John Lunney. Wifeโs name is Mary Moran. I am trying to find out in what county they may have come from. I realize the information is scant but any suggestions would be appreciated.
Lunney
My great grandfather was Thomas F Lunney son of John Lunney and Mary Moran. This information is per Thomas Fโs 21 September 1893 marriage license in Boston Ma. However his birthday certificate of 20 March 1863 Brookline, MA. states his father is Thomas J. I have tried numerous genealogy sources and cannot find anything on the Lunney Sept. other than maybe they are from Northern Ireland.
Here in the US the name Lunney has been written as Larney, Lunny, and Lunney. I do not have any to my knowledge famous Lunney ancestry.
